Hi. Thanks a lot for accepting me on the forum.
My name is Gabriel, I own a Freelander 2 2010, and I need to replace the propshaft bearing.
I live in Brazil and I'm not finding any publications about it. I would like to know if anyone has any video or tutorial to help me. thank you.

Generally the bearings aren't replaceable separately. Basically you have to replace the whole shaft as a unit.

It's the same with the Discovery 3 / 4 although some aftermarket bearings are available for those. Fitting them is a different matter however as the prop shaft needs splitting, which isn't easy.

This would also apply to the FL2. So best advice is simply replace the whole shaft.

Here the shaft is very expensive. Complete (new) R$ 8,000.00, used R$ 2,500.00 and propshaft R$ 830,00. Prices in local currency. So I'm trying to find a solution to change.

It seems total madness that you can't just get the support bearings and have to buy the whole assembly!

I'm not saying that's not the case because by the looks of it the LR parts suppliers don't list anything other than the whole assembly.

It looks like you can get aftermarket ones but you can bet they are trash and I wonder how difficult they are to fit.

They look like Fl1 bearings... which were also not available in the early days. I had to buy a complete prop shaft when mine went in 2006.

If the bearing size was known, it would be easy to get a replacement

The prop shafts are a pain to get apart, although it looks like the bearings may be available. The D3 prop is the same design, sadly designed as a non serviceable item. The CV joint can't be opened easily as the CV boot is trapped under a swaged over collar. I fitted a replacement bearing to my original D3 propshaft. However I couldn't get the swaged over collar to seal tight enough to stop the CV grease from escaping. So I had no alternative but to replace the old shaft a few weeks later with a shiny £230 replacement. :(
I do hate items that need to be replaced instead of being repaired, but that's the way the world works now.

That's really bad!

LR does not care. Want to sell the new item only.

That's really bad!

It is a bad design, if servicing it is a priority. I still have a couple of D3 propshafts in my garage as I simply can't dump such a large piece of metal that has nothing wrong with it except for a split rubber on the support bearing. I've even wondered how easy it would be to make up a special tool to re-make the CV seal joint. Although as I don't have a D3 any more, there's little need for such a device now.

Old trick for cv joint rubbers and split balljoint covers is to use superglue

It doesn't help to split the shaft out the CV, as access is needed to the rear of the CV yoke. The C ring is a square section ring, so needs to come off from the rear. To access the rear of the CV, the boot needs to be completely removed, so the yoke can be slid out of the groves. This is the only way to get at the C ring. The boot is secured to the shaft by a swaged on collar. It's a design that's clearly not ment to be repaired.

Good Morning.
I began to make the piece by hand. I will send photos for you to see how it was. I used a piece of polyethylene (PU) and liquid rubber. Later I'll put it in the car, and take a test. Sorry for My English.
