If it doesn't split your not using a big enough hammer.
Also how did you test the VCU to be able to say its excellent?
100% no stiffness in corner or full lock
But definitely works well on Cumbrian “B” roads when it’s mud or lose gravel
Hit it any harder it will definitely break

I wouldn't trust the full lock test, in my experience its totally hopeless and can give you a false (and potentially expensive) sense of security.
As the prop shaft is off the car put a couple of large screwdrivers in the universal joints either side of the VCU. If you can't make it turn without giving yourself a hernia it's no good and needs sorted.

Have you seen how bent the chisel is in that video?

Bigger hammer, more aggression needed.

After you've got it back on the car, do a 1 wheel up test. It will confirm your thoughts that it is in good condition, or, confirm @Alibro s that it is very difficult to sense impending doom from the full lock test. These are not mutually exclusive, but you need to confirm at least 1!
