Prices for disco's taken a massive drop?

Got my disco 2 up for sale but it would seem the prices people are willing to cough up has taken a drop, I know this time of year isnt the best of timing to sell but its time to let her go.

best ive been offered is £3500

below is the details am I wishing for too much?

Landrover Discovery TD5 2.5 2003 Facelift Model

First of all lets get the bad bits out the way, The drivers seat has wear on the bolster as all cloth seats do for this age of car, the rear offside passenger door does not unlock with the central locking it will lock (more likely the clip for the unlock has broke easy fix just never bothered me) The rear bumper has a crack which has been filled but not finshed just needs a rub and some black matt spray to finish it. Above the windscreen has some surface rust which is common with the disco apparently?

OK now for the good things

I have owned the disco for just over two years and in this time it has been a joy to drive, reliable and excellent in the winter.
In the time I have owned the car the following have been replaced

Clutch and duel mass flywheel

High pressure steering hose

Both suspension Airbags

Engine has been professionally re-tuned (not boyracer tuned sorry lads)

The exhaust system has been replaced with a full stainless steel system which has a lifetime warranty for the car, certs will be given to new owner.

Cruise control as the GS model does not come with CC

K&N Air filter - just needs a wash in soapy water every service.

HID light system - professonally fitted and legal - makes a big difference when night driving.

Parking sensors fitted with a rear view mirror which indicates your distance visual and audible
Over £2,500 spent keeping this car in tip top condition in total.
I have serviced the car every 6 mths, which after reading various forums this is the recommendation for this car to keep it tip top and happy.
The lights have been upgraded to HID lights fully legal conversion and I have to be honest I will never have a car without them now as night time driving is a pure pleasure with HID lighting.

The stereo has been changed for a multi media system which consists of a 7" touch screen DVD player which can play all media types this also plays films via USB cards, radio TV and bluetooth which works through the system just pair up your phone and away you go.
The front headrests have been replaced with 7" screen multi media game consoles these are a real life saver for them long drives with the kids. comes complete with games disc with hundreds of games wireless stereo headphones x2 remotes x 2 joysticks x2 These are hidden with zippers when not in use.

There is a tracker fitted to the car which is a contract free system so no expensive annual bills, you can track the car live at anytime or just ask for it's map position. you can call the tracker and listen to whats happening in the car and if you feel the need you can remote disable the car, this will need activating.
everything needed to know about this system will be passed on to the winner.

I would highly recommend that anyone interested comes for a test drive and even bring an engineer AA RAC for an inspection this is how sure I am of this car

Everything works as it should unless otherwise stated at the top of this listing.

Please dont bother me with how much to buy it now, instead tell me what your willing to pay, these are 5-6k to buy on this year, but i'm willing to negotiate due to the bad points at the top.

Only Disco 2s which are selling anything like 'well' at the moment seem to be the earlier ones to about 2001, and sub 3.5k.

How much do you want for it, realistically?

just down to the current market imo. If you look on ebay there's loads of classified between 4-9k that aren't selling but the ones on auction are going for 3.5 -4k.

Sorry mate but used cars are going cheap at the mo' .

and noone is going to buy it if you admit to towing a caravan with it at 80mph :doh:

if i got 4k id sell though would like a little more, if it wasn't the cost of running it fuel/insurance(mrs on it) and the tax I would def not be selling it, its been 100% reliable bar the clutch and high pressure hose but put them down to your average driving expenses.

3.5k is better than 0.0k

In all fairness GLASS guide is about 4k trade in and 5k start price in re-sale so you're on the money there.

Just a sign of the current market really.

I noticed I did not see the mileage anywhere the year mileage service history and condition are the most important factors if you don't have these you won't get the money no matter how much you love it.

I sold my 99 TD5 for £2700... it was in generally good condition, they just don't seem to be worth that much.

Ask yourself one thing. Why would someone spend £475 a year to keep it on the road.
Cos I wouldn't.

£270 a year from 01-06 then £475 thereafter I believe.

I'm stand corrected, your right. It now sound's like even more of a bargain.

But you still have to ask the question why is it not selling.

I don't like to be the prophet of doom but thing's are not easy out there & most people unlike you & me want a car to go from A to B.

land rovers are an aquired taste i know as i have two a 90 and a disco td5 es premium people who do not have our like for the badge and have 3500 to 4 k to spend will get a lot of premium cars which cost a lot less to run and maintain
audi a3 and a4 tdi on a 54 plate apx 3 to 4 k
i am sure it will sell but you will have to weight for the right person to see your car

If you want a comparison,

Im picking up our new D2 this weekend,

99,000 miles 2003 td5 METROPOLIS Which land rover put every toy they could find in it, Full service history 7 seats, Never been messed with every thing works. We have got that for £6000.

The average price for the Metropolis is 6-9 unmolested and then it goes down the scale.

The other thing is you have killed your self from the start, the first couple of lines are bits you say wont take 5 mins to sort, Well if you sort them then they are done

Is that how your actualy advert has been written.

I don't keep that up to date with D2 prices as I have never rweally looked at buying one, so I can't comment on that. However, I can write a very good 'for sale' advert and I recognise ones that aren't great quite quickly.

Do not start the advert with the bad bids. People won't get past the first paragraph let alone ring you up to view the car.

Have individual sections of the advert. I see you have listed what has been done? Put when and and what mileage it was done.

The professionally tuned up bit sounds rubbish. Explain properly what has been done.

Do the pictures show the car clean and from every angle including the underneath?

A Photo of all the old MOTs and receipts also helps a lot

I posted a thread similar to this a few days ago, but about prices of d1s,they seem to have fallen also, and are hardly going past 600.
I have decided to keep my R reg tdi300 till the Autumn, and see if the rougher weather will temporarily lift the price a bit, going into winter.
Mine is let down with high mileage,although no rust,and Land Rover serviced every 6 months all it's life,28 stamps in book,so I am not really expecting much but a bit more than 600, but alas times are hard out there so it might take a while.

If its got a full service history, no rust, then it should still go for reasonably money. Sling a full ticket on it and it should be good for £1500 +

Interesting read this as I'm currently looking for my first D1. I can only assume that prices vary depending on where you live. Most of the ones I've seen are between £1800 and £2500, with one at £2995
