Hi collective brains,

My TD5 seems to be boosting earlier than normal. Casually driving to the end of my road has me in limp mode unless i'm going super slow through the gears.

My style of driving hasn't changed and neither has my route to work. But, I am boosting higher (and sooner) than normal. As in, I used to only get up to around 20psi when flooring it in 3rd. But now, doing 40mph in 4 has me hitting the limit.

I have a stage 2 remap (TD5alive), allisport intercooler, silicone hoses, EGR blanked and a decat. Was fine for months then slowly during the last month to month and a half, i've noticed it.

What would cause this?

So youre hitting max boost much quicker at lower revs? Not really a bad thing! Though if youre going limp it is, i cant remember or not you got a boost box fitted?

Though at 20psi the actuator isnt really up to the job! Ideally want to fit a bleed valve to keep the boost in check.

Check to see if the actuator pivot in the turbo itself is seizing, used to be a quite a common td5 thing.
Pliers and some oil trickles down the shaft will free it up for now

Will give it a good lube. Was going to be my first port of call but work has been manic and not had time to fart let alone open my bonnet.

Did have a boost box fitted but was having problems and unplugged it during process of elimination stages. Turned out to be the MAP and I never wired the box up again. However, that was ages ago and it’s been running fine and ‘normal’ with it unplugged.

I’ll wire it back up anyway

siezed waste gate? try disconnecting it from the actuator and it should move freely.
Mine did it when I 1st got it but has been fine ever since

Plenty of this on the actuate sorted the problem...

Can the entire assembly be stripped and maintained easily? Or shall I just periodically lube it to buggery?
