59 plate Freelander 2 . After changing main high pressure pipe from pump and pipes into steering rack and bleeding system by turning lock to lock to remove air, started up engine but no power assistance.
When removing high pressure pipe from steering rack small silver disc dropped out. Have I fitted the silver disc the wrong way round ? Would this be causing the problem of no power assistance.
When engine running, main high pressure pipe gets very hot.
I am a mechanic and have changed several pumps and pipes. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a blockage of some kind. With the front jacked up can you turn the steering lock to lock? Careful you don’t burn out the pump. The advice is don’t shut off the flow for more than 5 seconds.
Here’s a video I did a while back.

He said on his introduction fred the metal disc was the wrong way round. Its a one way valve.
