Hi
Since ownig the disco (last year) i noticed on start up the power steering pump would whine for a couple of seconds but never seem to fail on the steering side.

So the other day steering went really heavy but its ok anything over 50 ish but i have noticed the whine has gone so has the pump gone on me all together ?

you should have fixed it from the beginning when you heard the whine, i mean at least changed the oil which i'm shure it's worn ATF... that's the cost of not using proper PAS cold climate fluid(STC50519) imo(cos the ATF is cheaper:mad:)

drain the oil and if it's not green(ish) but dark red then that's it

Cheers mate wheres the drain hole?

it doesnt have a drain hole, you must release the pressure pipe(nr 3) see attachment, maybe you'll need that scheme anyway if the pump is gone....if you just want to change the oil the simplest way i know is to release the return pipe from reservoir, direct it downward in a canister, start the engine for few seconds to drain it ... refill with patience untill the oil comes out from the return pipe then bleed by releasing the bleed nipple on top of box and turning the wheel from lock to lock few times, top up if necessary
