basically when i first got my 90 i noticed what looked like sensors for an alarm system just behind the driver on the roof.
always thought it was just a fake, as a deterrent or summit. also there is a small light on the dash, possibly a LED, like the light u have in other cars to show the alarm is on.
was waiting to pick up a mate the other day and decided to pull the "sensor" off to have a look. it has wires plugged into it, and doesnt look fake.
also the light is wired in.
there is also a black box within the battery box under the pasenger seat. this also has wires in it but they have been cut for some reason.
anyone got any ideas on wether the two are possibly the alarm system?

cheers

From what you describe it sounds like an after market alarm, have you checked under the bonnet for a siren? could be any kind of small box wired back to the one beside your battery

when i bought my car recently it had an aftermarket alarm fitted, the siren was fitted to the bulkhead, anywho the alarm kicked the bucket after a while and the previous owner informed me he bought the alarm in Latvia for 50 quid!

i just cut the wires on mine too as it was playing up with the ignition. I haven't bothered replacing it since.

So i quess the moral of the story is check and see if its landrover oem and if not maybe just replace it with a new one, might not be a big job considering all the contacts may be on the doors already!

I've got the same in my 110, I think they were standard fit, it's an alarm and immobilser, any door/bonnet opened will set it off, those sensors you see inside, are movement sensors.

Normally that LED should flash, unless you have a door/bonnet open.

To ARM (ALL DOORS/BONNET NEED TO BE CLOSED, IF NOT, THIS DIS-ARMS THE INTERIOR AND YOU'LL HAVE TO GET THE ALARM SYSTEM RESET, A LR TECH DID MINE) press your fob, that LED will flash quickly-the indicators will flash 3 times and the LED will settle down to a slow flash.

To disarm press disarm and the LED will stay for a couple of seconds and then go off, and flash slowy.

All this is common knowledge and most of it in the handbook, not a haynes manual (you can get them of fleabay). Can't say much more about it on here, don't know who's watching. But they do work, if set-up properly.

As for those wires, sorry no idea.

The black box under the passenger seat is the smart spider immobiliser - which thankfully in your case sounds like it has been chopped out.
If you undo and pull back the instrument pack down behind it you will see,(Or should see.) a green ecu. This is the alarm ecu, often not enabled with key fobs, but the LED in the dash should still come on.Have a look and see if any wires to it have been chopped. From very distant memory you might find a fuse for it near to the ecu.
