Hi, just tried starting my 300tdi, Voltmeter says 13.7 v on the battery, engine turns for about 2 seconds then all i hear are clicks, got a jump of a passer-by and the motor started instantly the car was a micra! any ideas ? Cheers for any help

check battery voltage cranking under 9 volts or under= shagged battery.
Also check vehicle earths and clean them

Check and clean a earths, you could also an extra earth from the negative on battery to a bolt on the block/head, this will give you a good enough earth, if still the same problem I had this happen to me and it turned out to be a worn out starter motor.
That was after I had brought a new battery, had alternator tested and loads of swearing haha

What voltage is your voltmeter showing when the engine is running? 13.7 volts with the engine off sounds excessive. It sounds like your alternator is possibly overcharging and cooking your battery.

Thanks for the info Ratty, i wont get a chance to check everything till the weekend.
Once started what voltage should the alternator put out, i presume the initial charge will be higher to compensate for just starting, should i let it tick over for five mins first ?
