Been looking at what remains of the foam, not a lot left for reference.
The wire frame which holds it only covers the two long 'vents' leaving the two shorter 'vents' at either end not protected ,as it were.
That don't seem right as crap can still get in and, if the original foam is supposed to cover these shorter vent's, how is it held in place with no wire frame extending to those areas?
I intend to use fly screen and haven't purchased the original type foam.

I believe Keith (Datatek) had a solution using perforated ally, looked rather nice and would be much more durable than the original. I will be doing the mod next time I take out the scuttle trim.

Very nice..but did you cover the smaller vents at either end? Looking at pics online, it seems the foam doesn't cover them so crap can still enter the chamber and thus the pollen filters.
I haven't got any Ali mesh which would be my first choice but I have a fair amount of fly screen stuff left over from my old camper rebuild so I'm using that with some galv chicken wire behind to support it. I'll update my 'Duchess is in the garage!' with what I've done when I've done did it:D

Keep it to a minimum as the wiper arm kit swings past one side.
Also, you can dump the wire assembly and reuse the clips to hold the new mesh onto the vents. I used the aluminum as it was easy to do cut and shape by hand. ;)

I covered the end vents too and with the alloy mesh I used the main part can be held in place with the original wire frame. The end parts I secured with small S/S self tappers

I replaced my foam for 2 week ish ago. No foam on thoose small vents. I find that odd.

For sure going aluminium next time.. :)

My wiper arms were quite a bugger taking off, had to use a prybar.

And damn @Mark Piercy that alu vent looks sick :eek:

Old one, well rotted, used for a template.
2nd pic, new one made from galv wire left over from wiring Gambon crates together.

Not happy with my attempts with the flyscreen/chicken wire, looks a bit naff.
Any links to the Ali stuff @Datatek ?
Please.
www.themeshcompany.com 3mm hole 5mm pitch 1mm thick aluminium. After cutting and bending, I gave it a couple of coats of matt black from a rattle can. I have lost my photo's with my old computer, I'll take some more tomorrow.

Photo of mine attached, sorry it's day late, battery was flat on my camera:oops: LZ would not let me upload a second photo. Note the holes are small enough to stop stuff getting in but big enough not to obstruct the airflow too much. It now looks like LZ loaded the same photo 3 times???
