Does anyone use Rhino or similar plastic ramps?
Could do with something lighter than steel ones tbh ;)

I think that this very subject was addressed just a few weeks ago and I don't think that the result will have changed that much since then.
We all thought they were good .... for a laugh. Fell into the realms of chocolate fireguard accessories I believe.

Only ever used plastic ramps for levelling the caravan .. Don't know if I'd like the 'feel' of them supporting the Landy while I worked underneath!

The engineer in me says it'll be fine, but I still have steel ramps and axle stands .. :)

Ive used them several times under a 2006 Dodge charger and a Tesla model S (heavy car). They were rated to 12 tons and never felt like they were going to be a problem.
Only issue was that the were not as high as the steel ones I have. Probably only a foot high.

here's the ones i've just got, son treated me

alas as said there not as high as the metal ones, but as a disco is quite a high vehicle anyway just gives that extra room to get underneath

always put axle stands underneath , for that extra safety

good that they are also wide enough to support the full width of the tyres

Well plastics have come a long way, 45 years ago I was installing mega heavy power station machinery, turbines, pumps crushers, etc, on sole plates sitting upon a layer of self levelling plastic, it has extremely high compressive strength and most durable. I think that I'd back plastic ramps, properly constructed, (and with present day litigation laws, that they would definitely be), against steel.
And they would be a lot easier to handle for us older folk, but why not buy a nice two poster 4tonne hoist, easy access to everything under your vehicle and not all that expensive, provided you have the space, I personally don't have one but our Mens Shed got one for our members to use, what a bonus!

If i had a level driveway, I would have had a four post lift many years ago mate.
I'll keep looking, but comparing some of the metal ramps on fleabay, they are identical to the ones sold by MM, but at half the price.
And I've never been to impressed by some of the welding tbh.
Although my drive has a slight slope, it is concrete, so plastic may be a good option.
And yes I agree, plastics have come on some in recent years

One thing with this, and this may appear to be teaching people to suck eggs or just stating the obvious, But:

If you are buying a pair, then I would highly recommend buying a pair that come from a reputable supplier AND that are a known brand name.

The "Chinese" are getting too good at copying stuff like this, even items that are low volume are now appearing, Unfortunately there copies have not been validated / tested and they are known to use inferior materials / processes in their products.,

This is not to say all "Made in China" products are inferior, but the good ones have been tested and approved by their end supplier through the entire supplier chain including the base materials and processes utilised.

Finally, if you have a pair, then do not store them outside or in sunlight. I would keep them covered by a sheet in a shed.

Cheers

Being a light material would you not suffer with sliding when you try to move onto the ramps. I did get the same slide with metal versions until a kind soul mention using a carpet underneath the metal ramps. Granted if I was using Plastic Ramps I would trust the manufacturer recommendation to have them blessed by a local Shaman each time in use.
I think the Chinese are clever in producing faulty goods in a revenge on the western culture way of mass genocide.o_O This maybe left field and feel free to shoot me down here as I soar into the wide blue yonder. Look how easy China embrace western goods after the revolution and the widespread selling of faulty goods that either maimed or killed poor saps who buy cheap imported goods on some flea market. It a clever plan to take over the west mind and body for tat:rolleyes:. Imagine some poor Joe Public who buys guff off the market eg Pubic hair curling tongs or Afro hair straighteners:confused::cool: for only to have them singe or blow up on first use or electrocute. Where is the come back for compensation, China frankly couldn't give a stuff:oops: So really you buy an suffer what you pay for, in my case a lot of soothing creme for my rollocks and todger:(

Good tip on using a bit of carpet under ramps. I hated trying to drive up the bugger a cus they always tended to slip. I used to have an old mini that needed revving to get it to climbe the ramps. More than once it shot up and over the top. Eventually I gave up on them and just used a trolly Jack and axle stands. I've been thinking about these airbag jacks but I wouldn't fancy lying under the landy with just that holding it up. A two post lift would be the ideal accessory in my dream garage

I am tempted and may well get some when we get back from holiday. I like the width and extra rating of these.

my son got them for me to save my back from struggling with the heavy metal ones

with the discos being high anyway it just gives that extra height u need

as plastics as mentioned have come along way,

ps, have a great holiday

Air bag or not the clue is in the name JACK and they always need safety supports once at the height you are happy with

I have had mine delivered and they seem just the job. Nice and wide and look strong enough. There seem plenty of height for most jobs. Well pleased.
