i have a 3.5 with eletric ignition can i fit conventional points with out changing the whole distributor

hi,why on earth do you want to go back to points and condenser????.
i have just changed this 3.5 for my old p6 that had points nd i never had any problems with it
i have new ht leads, distributor cap, rotor arm, coil, plugs but i have not changed the ignition box. i cannot get a spark but i do have a spark going into the distributor

hi,now i understand why you want to do that,i would firstly try and find out why you are not getting a spark with the electronic set up as it is much more reliable, plus no more points setting etc.:)

if i remember correctly there is a plastic part under rotor arm which acts as your points it breaks signal of e/ignition make sure its there and in good condition, hope tha helps pj

yes this is ok. i have a spare so i changed it over, still no spark there are 2 wires coming out that go to the ignition box with a live and negative going to the ignition box and i think up to the coil i presume that one of the wires is live to the distributor and a return but i have not checked if these are live or not

but as you said you have a spark to dizzy so weres that going . if you have got your old points dizzy give it a try with older sort of coil,i have to go now i will log on sat evening cheers pj

this is my problem i have power into the dizzy but no power out it is driving me mad

What year vehicle are we talking? Am I right in saying that the 2 leads into the dizzy that you are on about are the pick-up? have you tried measuring the resistance between the 2 wires? Do you have a seperate amplifier?

If you remove the dizzy cap and hold the ht lead near the rotor arm electrode do you get a spark?

the engine is out of a 1987 RR body ser 2 running gear 90
the coil is bolted to a box with + - going in and then up to the coil and another 2 going down to the pick up im not sure what this is called i will try measuring the resistance between the 2 wires? i dont have a seperate amplifier would this help ?

i have 12v to the centre of the dizzy cap i will try holding the ht lead near the rotor arm electrode and see if i get a spark tomorrow

is there any thing missing i have only worked with diesel so this is all new to me i had a p6 that never went wrong it just died of old age
(quote)have yu got contactless "POINTS"?
are they IR or magnetic induction ? sorry how do i tell

(quote)
wot colour is the "box"? does it have any writing on it? i will look in the morning, it is silver
