Pics of carpet set fitted...

Hi all,

Toying with making the inside a little more 'comfortable' and 'modern'. I appreciate it's not for everybody, so no need to comment if you think it's a waste of time and that real off-roaders don't have carpet (or similar). But, more than happy to hear any technical reasons why carpet should not be fitted (if there are any)

I have a 90 TD5 (R380)- do any of you have pics of black carpet fitted?

Check my thread you can see the original XS carpet and the LRI Solutions carpet I fitted. Though personally if you choose to I would go for the Exmoor Trim.

Only pain in the ass with it, is it can be a little tough to clean but I velcro'd some sheeting over most of it to keep it muck free when off roading. Also gave the lot a couple coats of suede shoe protector.

Also make sure you have got any major leaks, or the carpet just soaks it up. Good to keep one of the cupboard dehumidifiers in there to keep all dry and smell free!

+1 for Exmoor Trim, with some silentcoat adhesive sheets underneath. If you take your time fitting it and invest in some nice steel threshold plates it looks, and sounds great.

Carpet, in a proper landy! You'll be wanting to hold hands in public next

Oh yeah +1 on the SS threshes, they look brilliant.

If you don't get it muddy, or not very, main concern would be the carpet holding water, and rotting the bottom of the door pillars etc. Make sure you deal with any water leaks first if you think that may be a problem.

I find they impede the flow of water back out of the vehicle. Despite having no obvious leaks, water always seems to find it's way in mine!

I've done this to my 90. I got a few £30 rolls of single silver sided sticky insulation laid it all down EVERYWHERE and then got some £5 sq m carpet from a local carpet shop and looks brill, deffo do that again in another lanny

On a serious note. Defenders leak.. oil out and water in.
Soggy carpets are no fun. Is yours a garaged example or kept undercover. If not, then you may want to reconsider, maybe for a different material that won't hold the water.

On a more serious, but obviously tongue in cheek....

I used a dynamat layer prior to installing the carpet - the result is a total transformation. Brilliant sound quality in the cab now

Is that bloody nice! Good job!

One thing I did do which keeps the floor mats dry is lay thing rubber floor mats underneath! The small amounts of water seem to pool under the rubber mat keeping the carpet nice and dry.

I do get a little water in but only at the pressure wash

I use a similar, but more agricultural approach. Dynamat under the standard rubber mats in the footwells. In the back, Dynamat, 1/2 inch ply, followed by pin matting.
Quiet as a church! Well, sort of a very noisy church!

I only have one small leak at the moment (touches wood, crosses fingers...and eyes and legs). It's a little pooling under the clutch pedal after heavy heavy rain (clutch also leaks a bit too)

Floor and footwells have silent coat (like dynamat), camping mats and then rubber mats

Front formed carpet was from LRI solutions - the rear I made. Bought some car carpet off tnet and used my spare ofgicecarpet on bulkhead and roof. I made a thinly side and rear panel - covered with a thin road from finely and then covered that with a faux leather Done the same with the side seating.

If you want a cheaper alternative to dynamat, that is just as good, look a Fatmat. Did both my 90 and 110 with it, works very well at a fraction of the cost

Yes seen that. I spent over £500 on dynamat - not a happy wife!! But thinking of putting some in the bedroom!!
