Right i am looking for advice on this one having never done this before?

I have a 90 county which i have decided to replace the really dodgy engine Land Rover put in this..IE: the pressure problem spitting oil into air filter.! ..

I want an 200 TDI engine to drop in does anyone have one to sell??or know of any good web sites to get one?

Also i am going to paint the 90 Matt British Army green as i cannot afford a new respray and i do prefer this colour,
What is the best way to hand paint this way do you have to thin paint???
Primer ??

Hi,

Sorry can't help you with the engine issue. A mate of mine has been looking for a 200 Tdi for a couple of months now, as yet he has had no luck. All the web sites I have seen that do 200 Tdi's want an engine for exchange.
As for the paint, are you going to paint the vehicle army green using army paint?
Army paint is porous, it absorbs water. It is not a high quality car paint, the army don't care as they re-paint their vehicles so often. If to much water gets absorbed it starts to lift. My ex-army vehicle is covered in lots of layers of iffy paint, it is peeling and cracking. If you do want to use army paint I have heard that the best way to apply it is thin it down 50/50 with thinners, and apply 2 or 3 layers. I belive a medium sized roller brush works well. If you do not remove the original paint from the vehicle you won't need a primer. If there is bare metal you will need an etch primer as paint does not stick to aluminium.
When I get time to repaint my ex-army vehicle, the plan is to strip it down to bare metal. Repaint it with the correct primer and proper car paint. Then repaint it in military colours with army paint. The idea is that if the army paint peels off the proper paint underneath will protect the body panels.
