What is this engine?

I was reading an old copy of LRO at work and thay had reader tech question about one of these engines in a RRC and the anal retentive nerd at LRO was like: " I couldnt possibly comment, one of these engines is far to powerfull to have in a landrover" etc etc

I want one! sounds good so any ideas what one is?

the perkins I have seen in in RRC are like 80 bhp 4.236's = mmmmmmgay

More power needed:D

got them in some of our trucks...they ok...torquy...but heavy...and big..

no where near enough power for a rangie though..and too low revving..bugger to gearit up...if you want diesel go yankie v8 or jap 6 cylinder (toyota or nissan 4.2's etc)

what about your bmw petrol v8 option then??

Ages ago I welded up a roll frame for a custom built 101FC camper - it had a brand new Perky Phaser motor. It was OK for the purpose, but still a light truck/industrial/Ag unit really.
The 4.2 6cyl Toybota or Nissan motors would be a better bet really.

Thanks Guys!

Zen I was more interested in the spec of the phaser rather than actually fitting it to my car, just seemed a bit ott reaction by the LRO nerd pensioner writing lol

I am a fan of all big engines, someone on here was gonna put an iveco v8 diesel in his landy if I recall? wonder how that went??

I am the biggest fan of the bmw 4.0 v8, as I have a tuned one myself. If I ever lose the rover v8 in any of my RRC's it will be one of those that goes in :D

Nah, a Chev mouse is much more fun - with alot more possibilities in how you do it.

13k plus ancilleries shipping from canada , import tax vat and vat on the tax and tax on the vat

modifications , fitting, new box, t box, axels and diffs etc. when I win the lottery and get a few mechaics on staff to help maybe!!

I have thought it through though you see, pipe dreams :D

give me the initial 13k then and Ill make a start :D

I am doing my 2 door a bit at a time at the mo, mind you keepin the 4 door on the road can also be classed as that. same as any landy

Nah,its not that dear.A short block can be had in the UK,just look around and dont hurry. The Tranny is not expensive and the standard T box and axles will put up with alot for road use.
Back in 1998 I put a 502" Chev rat into a 110CSW with a TH400 box against a standard Defender T box and it already had RRC axles - not even a Salisbury back end.In the two odd years I was messing around with it I only did one prop uj.Apart from the rat being brand new the rest was done for very little.

for a start the gm motors are alot cheaper than the chrysler ones.

also the 572 block is a race quality product is very pricy let alone short or long or full engines.

finally it will chuck out 670bhp to 5000bhp depending on spec, blower and fuel. I dont really think a zf4hp22 or an lt95 will cope even with the lower figure .

Shame, I wish it would! but unless I get the euro millions its on the back burner

when I was in canada last year I spent a bit of time with a guy who had 550 hemi funny car motor in a duster. it was blown but only fueled to 1300 bhp as hes used it as a "grocery getter" as he put it. could run 9000 bhp as a strip motor aparently. sounded nice, even wuith the header plugs in and it going all the way through two 6 inch stainless pipes :D

Must admit my time has been spent with Bowtie and Ford v8 stuff,so perhaps you could lower your dreams a bit - the rat was around 480bhp/550ftlb,shirley thats enough in a road car ?

I am a mopar guy if I go yank

Thats why I got into range rovers, bit more practical in the uk but still a v8 you can hear.

my tuned 350bhp v8 bmw has all the go and the show but no noise , very quiet even at well you know :D

ran a chrysler 300c with the new 32 valve 5.7 hemi for a month last year when in canada, I wanted the 6.1 new srt8 hemi but the hire companies said I had the most powerfull one they could do was the 5.7 at 370bhp.

it sounded nice and had great low down torque but anything over a ton and it was gutless and wandered like fook too. yes I did get a ticket too but one in 2000 miles at mostly that speed wasnt bad :D. my much older bmw with nearly 2 litres less was much faster and more stable but didnt sound as nice.
