Perkins 4.203 v Series 1 Gearbox query

I have recently purchased a Series 1 86" with its original gearbox, but the vehicle had no engine.

So I decided to buy a Perkins 4.203, the one I plumped for off ebay included a LR adaptor plate.

When the engine arrived I whipped off the adaptor plate and discovered the plate is much bigger than the bell housing on the gearbox, see attached photo.

The seller says he know nothing of the history of the engine, it was part of a job lot of stuff he bought so I can't get any more information from him.

The name "Phillips" is cast onto the adaptor plate along with 2 initials maybe W.E, its an alloy plate not machined steel etc.

Its has a set of numbers under the makers name which are even harder to read, maybe "p4 203 xxxx", the last 4 are illegible.

My question is this, can anyone suggest what LR gearbox this might fit, maybe an LT77 for example, or better still identify the manufacturer of the plate, googling yielded no clues.

Milners no longer do them and refused to talk about them.

Looks like an original spacer plate from when engine was in a tractor/digger install

Yes someone else said that too, the engine has an alloy sump so its not out of a tractor.

Any idea what it might be out of ?

Been in a boat or on a generator perhaps

Here are photos of both sides of it.

It has a nice crack in it but I have someone who can repair it but as it stands its far too big to bolt onto my gearbox bell housing anyway.

Does anyone know if the adaptor is an adaptor and if why its so much bigger than the gearbox bell housing, are later LR gearboxes fitted with bigger bell housings ?

I measured the series 1 bell housing which is 300mm, the adaptor plate is made for something 350mm.

A quick call to Nick at Dunsfold revealed it is most likely a plate for an LT95 4 speed manual as fitted to RRCs, 101s, Stage 1 V8 and early 110s.

it doesnt look lt95 to me

Looks like its out of an old forklift to me with a W.E. Philips adaptor plate fitted, my dad years ago fitted a 4203 into his 2a and bought an adaptor from them and me and my bro worked in the forklift game at the time and sourced him an engine and helped him convert it into his 2a but like a tdi engine fitted you will need a stronge gearbox as they are very torque and go well just a bit noisy and feckin heavy, hope it all goes well
