Hi as any one fitted a performance air filter to a td4 and which type did you fit and dose it make a difference:decision:

I fitted a K&N filter back in 2002 or so and a couple of weeks later my MAF was gone, might be the oil in the filter which was too much for the maf, however on the K&N site they say it's impossible. Anyway since then I just oil it (the filter) very sparsely and no more problems anymore. Maybe it was coïncidence after all? As for the results, can't remember anymore how it was with the normal filter but think it was not much of a difference, only benefit is that you can wash the K&N filter out and re-use it almost undefinitaly but don't know whether in the end the price won't be the same, new normal filters compared to the price of the special oil etc... to be used for the K&N. The type I have is the normal replacementtype of the standard airbox. If I had to redo it, personally I wouldn't change it anymore. But if you have made up your mind I know you're going to buy it anyway. No matter what advice you get, if it's in your head, you'll do it...:D:D:D

I have fitted a K&N filter and even after I started the engine I noticed it was not running as we'll. Not sure it's the maf but going to have to look at buying one and checking. It just seems very non responsive. It was quite lively before when I blocked off the EGR and popped in an oil separator!

have had a K&N for about 10k.miles ..

no problems ..

although no difference in mpg. or perceived power performance ..
( in anycase .. i think it's estimated to give only about 1to5 extra bhp .. )

the fact that it's reusable seems to be the only advantage ..
( if it could be called that :) .. )

~~~
K&N made a nice difference on a moto-guzzi i once owned ..
be the only reason i chose to try it on the td4
I fitted a Piper-cross straight out of the bag it came in,
the foam one and can confirm no problems at all since early October..
Not sure it has any actual performance benefits, but if you add it to all the
other bits I changed and the better diesel I now put in,
I am getting an increase in MPG of 2-3 MPG,
this is enough benefit for me..
On its own I would be surprised if you noticed any benefit though..
Just My Opinion...;)
I fit one on all my cars, and they have never had a bad reaction to them..
im looking at either getting a k&n or pipercross air filter for my 06
had k&n in my other jeep , be my first pipercross, some say the pipercross foam air filter doesn't last as long as k&n airfilter ?
Imo cotton filters and better than sponge filters, and last forever if serviced correctly. :)
Not sure, but I would go for a K&N. Never had problems with them, and excellent quality. :)
I fitted a Britpart one initially, but when I bought my full face intercooler from Allisport, they supplied a Pipercross filter to use, no problems with either, a bit more low down torque, possibly better fuel consumption but being an auto, not much.
