Dear all,
I bought a Defender 130 td5 Bushcamper three weeks ago, so I'm very new in all that stuff. I just started to derust and conserve the underbody, but now I found a rust spot looking not so good.
Its at the frame near the back tire on the driver's side on the part of the axis mounting. Please check attached picture.
Does it look critical? Is it allowed to weld a new metal plate obove that area? Any tips from the field?

Many thanks & kind regards

yes you can weld that, but that is a pretty unusual place to rust, So I would be having a good look at the rest of that area as that crossmember is what supports the A-frame for the rear axle

It was one of the areas that convinced me, my chassis wasn’t worth repairing. If there’s rust in/around that area, I wouldn’t bother as other areas are usually worse.
