I try and buy oil in bulk (several 20L containers at a time) and will soon need to order some more. I have found this one which specifically states it’s for unit injector engines, something I have never seen before.

Does anyone that’s used this or any other oil stating “for PD or EUI engines” have any feedback about it - is it worth it? Our last “batch” was Exol Optima Vimax 5w40 ACEA A3 B3 B4. API SL/CF. It is comparable in price to the Exol oil we have been using, my only concern being it has a C3 ACEA rating which I would think be more suited to a DPF-equipped vehicle?

I have used the PD Plus version in my missus car this year, no adverse issues (and I would not expect any). This one appears to be suitable for vehicles with exhaust after treatments (dpf's, cats). Tech data sheets attached for comparison. I am a big fan of Comma oils, for years I have used Halfords brand which are produced by Comma and were sold alongside Comma branded oil for years (but much less evident on Halfords shelf these days). Now I usually buy online and get it delivered for less than it costs in the shop.

Blimey that’s pretty crappy dude, I’d be pretty upset if I saw that In my sump but there is worse things to be in there I suppose

What oil are you running in your TD5? I’ve never seen an oil specifically state it’s for EUI engines
Use only PD/EUI specific oil if you want the best, i've been insisting on this for a while now, it seems since 2014 https://www.landyzone.co.uk/search/39429538/?q=pd+oil&o=relevance&c[user][0]=9153 ...if you have patience to read all those threads you'll find enough arguments against the "old school" thinking or the specs shown in RAVE which in this area became obsolete IMO.... and i'm not gonna have the whole discussion again cos it exhausted me in 4 years

Are you using the C3 one mentioned above?

I have to rectify, i checked in the garage, it's not exactly the same type mine is Comma diesel PD plus 5W40 but it seems the same spec

Go onto YouTube and type in total quartz 10w40, there is a chap on there who tests a load of oils and this one always comes out with great results and cleanliness

A 10w oil in this country might be a bit thick especially in the winter! I know in the hotter countries like Australia they run 10w (or even thicker). I just wondered if the PD oil would be better as it specifically states its for EUI engines.

Not sure if it’s too thick but I would imagine a 5w would be better for saving fuel

I have asked the technical department at Comma about the PD oil, specifically why it states it is for EUI engines but their own website does not list it for the TD5, and got the following response :

Thank you for your enquiry.

Typically we would not recommend PD Plus for this engine as this offers different performance to what the engine manufacturer specifies- A5/B5. Our causes for concern are:

  1. A5/B5 oils typically offer better fuel economy
  2. A5/B5 oils typically contain more detergency better suited to some engines
However this is not to say PD Plus would not perform well- we just haven’t got the data or experience to confirm this.

Kind regards,
