Bought a td4 a few moons ago and had what sounded like wheel bearing/prop shaft bearing noise. Of course, got on LZ and was advised caution as it was possible that the tyres were the cause. Hard to believe as the noise was bloody awful. Anyway, thought bollocks - if it was going to break in time ec etc. Today got new tyres all round fitted and the difference is absolutley unbelievable. Noise gone!!!!!!!!!! Great advise guys - panned out in the end! Not been on LZ for a while but a quick review shows the banter is still prime stuff. tks

I had exactly the same on a Mondeo last year. I even changed the nsr wheel bearing I was so convinced that was the problem. A couple of weeks after changing this I needed new tyres anyway and guess what - Noise gone. Was glad I bought the bearing cheap off eBay and fitted it myself or I would have been well out of pocket for no reason.

Glad you got it sorted dude!

so what tyres did you change to and what pressure are you running ? Got michelin sychrones on mine, got a bit of a drone at 80 odd. Upped pressure from 32 to 35 all round and noise gone.

Re tyre noise I moved away from the Goodyear's and the Michelin synchrones , I found that the price did not match the quality I was looking for.

I moved over to the GENERAL GRABBER U.H.P. Never looked back. Noise reduction fantastic, grip in both the dry and the wet excellent.

I will not be changing back to the well known makes ever again!

I've currently got Bridgestone Duelers and they are very quiet indeed. Almost no tyre noise right up above the national speed limit... They grip and handle well too.
