Howdy folks.. Im afraid im another one of those that signs up just to ask for help lol.

Ok, I have a freelander w2000 DI with the l series engine in it and I have had this same problem twice now... after having totally unrelated jobs done - first time rear brake shoes replaced and this time after a service (the only similarity i can think of is that on both occasions the vehicle has been up on a ramp..)

Basically, it will only occasionally rev above 2000 and if/when I get it to run higher it hesitates a lot.. if i try to push it any futher from there then i'll be lost in a cloud of blue smoke!!

Like i said, this is the second time this has happened - the first time, the garage took a few days to poke around and then diagnosed a maf sensor problem from the error codes... but im not convinced that is the problem now..

I thought myself of it being a full sediment filter maybe? but i couldnt locate it under the car yesterday... are they fitted to all freelanders?

any suggestions greatly appreciated

cheers

Andy

just to add -just as an 'out of interest' type thing.. ive just been for a short run and everything seems fine again now - which is leading me to again think it is the sediment filter (overnight settling sorted it?) but i still cant find it lol... am i just being thick????

*edit* after a longer run, the problem has returned... when i got home and opened the bonnet, the primer pump in the engine bay was sucked completely flat!! so im back to the same place...

the fuel tank looks pretty new so im wondering if they've done away with the filter at the back...

is there anything else i can check here?

Your findings certainly suggest that the fuel pump is struggling to pull fuel through due to some blockage/restriction. I think you should start by removing the tank sender/pick up unit and see if there's any crap there.
Then move on to the fuel filter, whether it's been changed or not it could now have sh1t in it from the tank.
