P38 Rev Limiter???

Hi, I am new to this site so bear with me!!

I have a P38 2.5 dse since November of last year and I have never really put my foot down until today. When it got upto 4000rpm it just died on me.

Does it have a rev limiter or do I have an underlying problem or are they just not designed to go over 4000rpm

Apart from that the car is as sweet as a nut and runs perfectly.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
