hi just fitted a replacement engine into a p38 4.0 that had to be replaced due to a thrown con rod and smashed cam n piston, dont know how or what exactly happened/history of how damage occured ie speed at time ect? as purchased car from a guy who bought the car like it salvage and he never new alot of info about the engine prob said lost interest!, anyway checked location of torque convertor in box prior to fitting engine all seemed ok locating ok ,all bolted to flexiplate ok,engine runs and sounds lovely no warning lights on dash ect, checked and topped up auto box with dexron 2 oil and run through gears but absolutley no drive whatsoever, and it makes a funny noise when shifted forward at idle into park .everything is connected properly as have double checked,is it possible output shaft sheared inside box due to engine failure or could be something else less major?.would be thankfull for advice please:mad:

That horrible noise when you put it in park is normally when the box input shaft is turning but there is no oil pressure to operate the brake bands.

I can’t see it being the selector adjustment. Do you think there is any chance you could have broke the oil pump flanges off with the engine. Did it feel ok when the engine was going on?

I reckon the transfer box is in neutral, anyone looked to see if there is any transfer box motor issues ?

how do youcheck the trans box motor, would this break in the event of sudden engine lock up or would the outputshaft or torque converter not fail first?

As mentioned fuse 11 is a common one but the dash normally beeps away and says “Transfer neutral”. I think the instrument cluster dong is the only thing that does break on one of these things.

i dont suppose someone has put the fuse 11 in to tow it?
dont know as i towed it myself but it was recovered to the previous owner by aa so its a poss were does fuse 11 live then please and would this cause the problems im excperiencing? not able to get to car till next weekend so cant check this till then, thanks heres hoping its that simple

Fuse 11 should be homeless except in the unfortunate event you need to tow the vehicle on all four wheels. In these cases it resides in the side of the drivers seat. With the fuse in, transfer neutral is selected, remove after towing.
