Hello!
I'm new on here, but always wanted to own a mk II Range Rover since I was a kid. Now im 26 I finally got one (in fact it's my first car haha)

I managed to find a lovely 4.0 V8 SE with all the bells and whistles working (almost) apart from the odd EAS tantrum it runs like a dream.

Anyway as I stopped to fill up (again) the other day I wondered. Is it a crazy idea to think you could convert one of these into a hybrid. I.E an electric motor (strong enough) to cruise around the city/ idle in traffic and then the V8 kicks in once you open it up??

It converts to LPG nicely enough. That should help around London.

Heavy car to start putting batteries in although the EAS would help there. You'd lose a lot of boot space though. Not sure exactly where you'd mount the motor(s).

Several 10+ Kw hub motors
Axle housing gut & retrofit with an electric motor (https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/6-wheel-drive-discovery-ii-am-i-totally-mad.301730/page-8)
System that direct drives a custom flywheel (like a reverse dynastart sort of gizmo)
Decent size motor that belt drives a custom crank off the crank pulley (has been done before on other cars)

Plenty of options for those with infinite wallets & creativity but limited sanity!

It converts to LPG nicely enough

LPG is the best bet if you want to actually save any cash mind
