hi,you may remember a short time ago,i was going to fix my front axle leak,i finally got down to it,after 3 frigging days of trying to make parts give up their grip, the airbags are getting done,i have done one front one so far, luckily someone else did the other front one,i have the two back ones to do,i am not looking forward to it,but i am a glutton for punishment.
out of frustration i used a sledgehammer on the front hub, just to get it apart to replace the axle oil seal.
i was near to covering it in petrol and setting fire to it,
after taking time out i was back to it,completed the job,and i am hoping to be actually driving it the weekend,if that is not too much to ask.
p38's don't ya just love em,i think i need a bloody long holiday,i ain't friggin takin the p 38
thanks to all for the info, and great advice, without the help on this site i would of had a burnt out shell today.

I did warn you that the hub could be a little "Tight" where attached to the swivel !!
yes it was tight, but i took your advice and cleaned it all up,applied copper ease, and hopefully if i go there again it won't be too bad.
your advice was spot on and very helpful,if i ever see you i will buy you a drink or 5

I have restored classic cars for over 25 years, I have owned a Defender and having done much work realised whilst simple, and big, everything is too F..ing tight.

Now owning a P38 I have discovered the ulitmate fix, a local young lad who specialises in Landys and...

the best bit.....

Charges less than £10 per hour.

He replaced the head and battery, everything included less the head (I got that from Bridge Heads in Manchester) for £410

I still work on the classics, just not the P38 - I think I would go for the gallon of petrol and a match technique!!
