P38 fuse 8 failure (not)

Driving my 2000 4.6 yesterday, got my sons psp charger plugged into 12v socket (loose fit), I reach down and adjusted heater temp control, hevac suddenly shuts down, message 'fuse 8 failure' on dash. Checked fuse 8 (30 amp) but it's ok. Got power to radio but hevac and 12v socket not working. Before hevac shut down, book symbol was displayed, but I usually get this intermitantly with the hevac working ok. Any advice appreciated....

check plugs on BECM under driver seat for good connections on multi /plugs pin 5 on connector C1290 feeds Fascia cigar lighter C1276 pin 6 feeding HEVAC Unit

Phantom fuse failure messages can also be caused by a faulty engine bay fusebox

Thanks for suggestions. At the moment have done nothing more than ensured BECM connectors are pushed home and inspected the fuse box, which looks like new internally. Going into TJC Landrovers tomorrow for new radiator, with the hope of avoiding overheat drama in summer. May get them to take a look at the fuse 8 issue too.
