I recently bought a nice pair of original RR roof rails for my P38, again from dear ol' fleabay. They came with all the fittings, screws and rubbers.

I slid back the access points on the roof and slotted the rails in...no problem there...But, when I tried to tighten the clamps, they didn't seem to latch onto the raised roof profile within the channel!....I didn't want to be too rough with them, or to force anything in case I damaged something, so I thought I'd post a request for advice from you guys!:) Is there a technique or procedure for getting the clamps to bite the profile?..Also, 6 of the hex screws seem to have a pin in the centre of the hex...maybe a special security screw for the outer covers, and I don't have a tool to fit....where can I get hold of one?
Any advice, suggestions or requests to sod-off will be most welcome:D

Cheers,

You're right there gav....how did you know I didn't know??:)
It's not easy being a dipstick you know!!:D

well i have had a look and its not in there, just the instructions for grab bars and ski holders and the like!!!

assuming you have rails that go front to back instead of sports bars that go side to side that is!:D:D

so, in reality it is i who is the dipstick in this case and feel i owe you an apology, i'm sure THAT feeling will pass soon enough!!:doh::doh::doh:

Hi i had the same problem so i elongated the holes in the brackets that fit under the roof profiles, and that did the trick. :D

Thanks metropolis...you hit the nail right on the head...thats just what I thought I may have to do...I'll give it a try...nothing to lose by elongating the clamp holes is there?
