it all started the other day with a squeeking/chirping sound on acceleration. quiet on tick over

today it has progressed on to a chuffing/ticking noise (kids say it sounds like an old chinnock helicopter). now ticking on idle

any suggestions please.......nice ones please

and series 71 im not gonna burn it :D

I hate to be the one to tell you, but its head gasket. Blowing compression out the side of the block. My guess its drivers side, 2nd cylinder from front. Sounds like pffft, pffft,.. Etc. Check out my posts from february. Happened to me then. Thought it was a cracked manifold. Good news is the head gaskets aren't as bad as you think. My posts from feb will talk you through it! Good luck! Shane

Thanks guys thats made my week :mad::mad:

ordered from island 4x4 cost £47, thought i would try the local motor factors, nearly fell over when he said £220 + vat for a gasket set and new bolts :eek::eek:

hopefully should arrive saturday. if anyone fancies a day in sunny north devon, promise of plenty of tea and swearing on monday/tuesday give me a shout :welcome2:

Mine was doing that, but only on the move turned out was number 6 exhaust manifold blowing

Result other than ringing off bottom stud on no 2...:)

have a good look at the exhaust side before ripping all the head off just in case
