Dear all.
Please forgive me as i am a total virgin to Range Rovers.
I recently purchased my 1st RR P38 4.6 HSE 1999 paying £1650 knowing that it had a problem with the EAS. This was probably stupid as i know nothing about these and don't know anybody who does. At the moment it's running on manual valves but by all accounts the following work was carried out. Wording as per advert.

"eas has a problem, running on manual valves at the moment.
ive rebuilt compressor with new liner and ring
replaced all the o rings in valve block
replaced driver pack on valve block, seems as though actuator valve has gone, ive spoke to guy who supplied all rebuild parts, he will do exchange unit for £100
as ive done most the work already."

Please advise where to start as i don't have a deep wallet and can't afford to spend hundreds of pounds. I'm in the Kent area. Should i try to re sale?

Mark:confused:

Does the system still work at all?
although the pump has had new liner and ring it may not have been fitted correctly and so air not pumping through it properly.
What I would do is get a spray bottle and fill with soapy water and spary all the connections to see if there is any leaks.

I replaced the ring and liner on my pump but it still took an age to pump up so I replace one from RPI engineering ( their Ebay page £100 with warranty)

Don't despair, just take it one step at a time.

Many thanks for your reply.
As i said i really have no idea if anything works or where to start if or how to check.
I feel stupid but any advise as to where to start would be great.

go to www.rswsolutions.com where the free EAS diagnostics comes from, lots of useful info there.
First step see if the compressor is working and making good pressure, second step look for leaks and you will also need to read the fault codes and unlock the EAS if it has a hard fault.

I know what i will be doing this weekend.

you can have a look on my profile there is a lot about eas .

i did the same as you knowing next to nothing about eas , and then i bought a rr p38 with a broken system

at first get the eas software and led ..

when you pump it up dose i stay up ??

is the eas ecu under the passenger seat?
is the compressor and valve block in place ?
is the air dryer next to the air filter in place ?
chek that all 4 height sensor is in place .

if it is then start the system up

rrepairs

ah the joys of a p38,you won't get time to get bored,i had mine for 1 week, then it came off the road for two weeks, while i replaced all the airbags, front axle seals, front drag link and balljoint, track rod end, rear brake pads,so frustrating as i had only just bought it and was looking forward to driving it,
you will have the age related problems i had,go through it thoroughly and it should give you a few years of trouble free motoring, but you need to keep on top of it.
my eas is playing up,i think i have a leak from the tank, but too damn cold to check properly,it does work but takes a while to go up,losing air over 2 days,i also need a new pump.
done all the seals.

Where can i get a manual which shows the location of all these parts?

:eek:I need you like a hole in the head. HAHAHA
I wont show your reply to the wife.

you shall download the rave manual .

i have the zip file but it is to big to add her ..

I also have a leak or to but same prob to cold and i works ok fore the moment :D

Agree with all of above.
Firstly checkout Storey Wilson`s RSW site as Datatek says, it`s got good clear explanations and good videos. Sarsted is right that you`ll need RAVE. Download or I got a disc off ebay for 3 quid. Don`t look at that first tho` or you`ll have a panic attack!
And, yes, give up all your other hobbies you`ll have no free time for `em now.
Now the bad news: buying a cheap Rangie is NOT the gateway to cheap motoring. Many parts can be sourced s/hand now. and with sites like this many of us "handy amateurs" can get bills down a lot from main dealer prices, but Rangies aren`t and never wil be a cheap car to own.
