Hi everybody,
For the first start of the day, it starts easily and runs well. After your drive, you turned it off. Then it is difficult to restart it again even though there is clicking sound. It failed to ignite or you have to wait for hours before another ignition. As I am new in P38, anyone can help in this issue. Thanks.

Regards,

Lawrence

Im new to p38s as well but so far in my research it would seem to me you have a hot start issue which there are kits for that seem to fix it. Im sure there are a few threads on here about it as I have read a few. Try searching hot start problem

What year is it? Later models shouldn't have the hot start issue.

Can you explain please. Do you mean that when warm the engine does not turn and all you get is a click when key is turned.

It's a timing issue with the bmw engine about 2k to sort out properly or buy a hot start box off eBay "mine was 20 quid" and it makes the coil heat on every start

It doesn't cost 2K to retime the injection pump. Changing the chains if badly stretched is a few bob but nothing like 2K if you do it yourself.

That's just what I read somewhere online tbh lol either way the hot fix box fixed the exact same problem on mine for 20 notes

Don't believe most of what you read online. Hot start problem is indeed a timing issue generally. But there are other things also. Hot start fix does indeed put glows on for every start but the most important thing it does is trick the ECU into providing cold start fuel. Hot start problem is caused by stretched chains retarding static timing. First thing that should be done is to correct static timing. How far the pump needs to be moved and how much movement is left after timing is set will give an indication as to how stretched the chains are. A hot start fix for twenty quid maybe a masking cure, but you won't like it if a chain breaks i can assure you.

Morning Tony, how are you? 2k for timing sort out ? Guess its true, the aristocracy have more money tan sence :D

Not so bad today. Think it cost me about £250.00 or so in bits to remove head to cure an oil leak and do it up, change chains and sprockets. Pretty simple job nothing out of the ordinary. Some of us are indeed fortunate not to required the services of a rip off garage to do our repairs. ;);):D

@wamners knows more than enough to be perfectly within his rights to take the p155 now and again. He really is the font of all knowledge when it comes to the p38, especially the diesel.
If you cared to stick around a while instead of alienating everyone on your first few posts, you would realise that it's just a bit of banter to keep us sane whilst in ownership of these vehicles.
However, the amount of knowledge and time freely given on this forum is incredible. I have been on many forums but none where I have contributed and discussed like this one.
As wammers says, if you're going to get all touchy and start calling people names, you are making a huge mistake.
You reap what you sow!
Take a chill pill and read a few of the threads and you'll soon see that if you ask sensible questions, you will get huge amounts of help (generally from the same few people) but, there will be some mickey taking thrown in. If you can't handle that then this probably isn't the forum for you.

So, you've posted 1 thread of your own to which you got the answers you need and then 3 comments on this thread and you think you're hard done by. Guck me fently.
