Hi lads,

Bit of a jam, a mechanic friend of mine was changing my A/T gearbox and found that the old gearbox is slightly differant. it seems as you look in the bell housing down the shaft with the tourque converter out there are 2 small flanges sticking out that seem to connect to the tourque converter, (see pics below,) there not present on the old gearbox so wondering whats going on??? the mechanic thinks the flanges might be for an ATF pump?? RAVE doesent show anything dont really know what else i can say.....

my Rangie is a 00 reg 2.5DSE auto and this old box must have come from a pre 99 as there is a place in the pan for the dipstick to connect.

You are confusing me a little here. Is the old box the one you are trying to fit? There should be two fingers if you can call them that, they do indeed drive the pump. If they are broken off the box is caput. These get broken when people try to fit the box back onto the torque converter when it's bolted to the flex plate. The torque converter MUST be fitted to the box first carefully then both fitted to the vehicle at the same time.

yeah i think the mechanic didnt do it that way. i left him with the sheet from RAVE but he obviously didnt read it. so yes the fingures on the new box are missing. i think he may have damaged them. either way i need to get a new box. think i have tracked on down

what you think Spud_H?? lol

Not much of a bloody mechanic then. Auto boxes and their torque converters should always be taken out as one and put back as one.
