P1470 Turbo boost solinoid problem fixed

Hi all , on the way to Wales a few weeks back I had the orange light come up and went into limp mode. Had codes read a garage and was told it was the turbo boost solinoid. I replaced it with lr part seems ok for the rest of the week but coming home it done it again. I has since changed all the vac hoses ( some were wearing thin) inlet sales and cleaned pipes and sensors. Erg bypass and the first 3 turbo hoses. Been back to Wales and light/ limp mode coming on now when just over 2000 rpm in 5 th gear going up a long hill with foot on the floor. Any ideas. Looking to buy a code reader would work out cheaper

Limp mode could be low fuel pressure, did the garage tell you the actual fault codes

Did the turbo solenoid vent filter get replaced at the same time?

Also check the small hoses on the solenoid.....Mine went hard and was leaking on the connectors

Most probable cause is your low pressure fuel pump(rear wheel arch) is on its way out. These usually die over a couple of weeks. Could also be the MAP sensor on the side of the manifold. Other than that it could be the fuel pressure sensor, dirty fuel lines, injector dieing, the list goes on. Try the pump first. Was the hill the big one on the A55? That's a killer, especially with the caravan on

Hi skinny Mike. That's the hill all loaded up. New fuel pump and filter fitted 6 month ago and all vac pipes and boost filter replaced as well even the one from the turbo actuator to boost solinoid. Yes they did give me the code and I looked it up and it said boost solinoid. Trying to find the receipt with it on. Cleaned map sensor when manifold was off and obd ( very basic on reads pressure) can't get the engine codes though hence looking for something that will.
Fuel pressure sensor maybe next. Will a decent reader I've icarsoft i930 or lr2 read fuel pressures

Hi skinny Mike error p1470 turbo boost solinoid..
All vac pipes replaced even short bit between solinoid and turbo, new filter fitted at same time. New pump and filter fitted 4 months ago. Map sensor cleaned when I had manifold off. Yes the big hill next to the sea .lol . Fuel line should be ok I always use addative Map sensor shows pressure on my basic obd reader but not a lot of codes hence looking into I care soft i930 or there lr2 maybe.. ( will these read fuel pressure) . The problem only seem to come under more load than normal ( no big hills in Norfolk) also if I drop a gear and Rev it clears limp mode and light. Will check fuel sensor plug at weekend for yellow dust. Thanks for the ideas keep them coming. Spend a lot of time in Wales so need to get sorted.

"Hi, we have had similar problems on a Freelander. Same mileage and 1470 fault code. When driven hard engine lost power, engine management came on. The Freelander is fitted with a multi vane turbo, boost pressure is acutuator controlled using vacuum. We eventually found the multi vanes inside the turbo were seized and coked up.
You can check using a multi vac or similar. Apply vacuum on actuator, You should see approx 12mm-15mm of movement. Our vehicle, when tested only had about 4mm. We removed the turbo, stripped and decoked. The multi vanes inside are all connected, if one seizes they all do!! The turbo was reassembled and refitted with no further problems."

Do you hit the M1 for a bit before heading over the pennines? If so, when you go over the viaduct at Sheffield / Rotherham, give us a wave, I'm only a minute from there

Checked turbo arm by putting a tube on it connected to a syringe. Pulled the vac and the arm moved a good 10 MM + ( hard to get a tape measure in there) fuel sensor at end of the common rail next lol will obd the map sensor when I get a chance to see what pressure its reading .. Any idea the values I'm looking for. Cheers

Would that give you the p1470 turbo boost solenoid fault? Might be worth trying another solenoid?....

Have fitted lr boost solinoid before the trip and it still goes into limp mode same as old one. Scratching heads now.

Just a thought could it be a wiring problem intermittent what controls the boost solinoid?

Have you had the fault cleared from the memory, thinking along the lines that it might be an old fault, if so the problem probably lies elsewhere
