Alternator fault!

How can I find out what model of alternator is fitted on my P 38? tried looking on the rear of unit, all it has is "Vegito" or something very close to this, trying to read it back to front viewing in a mirror.

Also, where is the best place to buy a new unit.

I think it's the alternator, I drove 40 miles last night after the warning came up on the dash, last few miles rev counter stopping and starting. Arrived at destenation, switched off, 10 minutes later wouldn't start, midnight in Edinburgh and no power.

Called the AA man, he turned up in the mornning at 06.30, jump leads on and started first turn.
He checked the battery with his fluke meter 13.4 v and charging, left it running for 45 mins, switched it off then hey presto it fired up.

Have ran about most of today stopping and starting no problem, another warning once today, alternator fault.

So, is this likely to be the alternator? any advice greatly recieved.

Fingers crossed it will fire up for work in the morning.

It could be the alternator, it could be the drive belt to the alternator, or it could simply be the electrical connections having a bit of corrosion on them, check the connector plug and see.

i would first check all cables and belt as this could just be a quick fix. you can get the replacement part off ebay, there are several so drop them an email
