max free air is without compressing it as far as I'm aware.

Bigger tank =more stable pressure

Sip stuff not as good as sealey

Redhand is quite knowledgeable

I'm sure there is a genius who knows all about compressors here.

I have a shot blasting gun from Sealey: SEALEY SB994 Shot Blasting Kit NEW on eBay (end time 28-Jul-10 13:13:19 BST)

.. and I need to buy a new compressor to run it.

Ideally I'd like one of these: SIP 06242 AIR COMPRESSOR 3HP 50L V TWIN DIRECT DRIVE on eBay (end time 29-Jun-10 20:05:01 BST)

But the compressor specs are confusing - what does "Max air free delivery" mean??

You will be able to do some work, dependant on the air pressure you set, with the smaller nozzles, but with the larger ones you will have to wait now and again for compressor to catch up. I think you will find continuous work will not be possible. As for the comment about Sealey being better than Sip. Quite a lot of the products both sell are identical, but with different labels. Sealey though does have a larger range of goods available.

Doesn't look like the compressor you looking at is capable of supplying the CFM that the blaster needs??

F.

Correct he will need at least an 18CFM compressor to do continuous work. And even that will be running most of the time. The bigger in fact the better. There are some 18CFM available that will run off single phase with twin 3 horse motors, but they ain't cheap. Most compressors 14CFM and up are three phase units. 440volts. The 50 litre tank is also a draw back 200 litres much better.

. it's a dilemma, because after this one job I don't have much need for a compressor. My thinking is to spend as little as I can on it, at the cost of it taking me longer to do the job.

The job is to shot blast two limestone fireplaces. they are 2m high x 2.5m wide..

No. I'm in France

Rental cost here would be 300-400 euro. for that I can buy a compressor..!

Maxi Loc here in France rent a diesel 2500L/mn 7 bar compressor for €37.33 per day + TVA or €29.86 + TVA per day if you hire for 10 days, or they do a 400L/mn single phase electric compressor for €21.01 + TVA per day:D

Thanks for the chuckle.

There was me checking up on my favourite site for keeping my Rangie going and I find prices for renting an air compressor in France.

I love this site
