When I set off in ORM, the Sports Mode light was flashing with an ‘M inside a gear light’ (Manual?).

The D indicator on the speedo was also flashing, I haven’t seen these before.

I took it out of ORM but could only get rid of the lights by restarting the engine.

I might be being paranoid, but have had (expensive) suspension issues recently...

Are they anything to worry about?

that often happens if you move gear lever whilst starting the engine, it can also be a sign of a faulty xyz switch on the gearbox where cable operates the lever, car will only drive in 3rd so is very sluggish to pull away a restart is cure if youve moved the stick to early

Thanks Jamesmartin.

Yes, it totally lacked power.

What is ‘rd’?

What is the ‘xyz’ switch?

key boards playing up, rd is 3rd gear , is it ok now after restart
Ha ha, understood.

Yes, perfectly fine following a restart. I did it twice to make sure.

When the lights were flashing (so in 3rd gear) I was trying to get up an incline so now I know why it struggled/lacked power.

What is that switch on the gearbox you mentioned?

xyz switch tells the ecu what position box selector lever is in, they can wear or get water damage

Type"xyz switch" into the forum search function and you'll get hit with a wealth of info. You are best asking nicely for anyone local to you with a fault code reader to see what's logged before jumping in and spending cash, xyz switches ain't cheap.

If the M+S warnings started to flash only when you selected ORM you should verify the charging system and the battery connections or the battery itself cos it can be a voltage drop due to the compressor's load, measure voltage stationary and whith engine running across maxi fusible link FL1 in the fusebox and body not across the battery terminals, you should get 14+ V with engine running and above 12.5 stationary

Thanks Sierrafery, I’ll check.
