Hi all, i have searched on this point but it only brings up a mixture of points which is pretty much where i started from anyway, no clear answers.

I have a 1994 D1 with oil in the swivels, it has the usual drips from the swivel seals and the balls are not pitted.

What are the current thoughts on one-shot vs EP oil? There seem to be two sides to the argument, one thats says it helps stop leaking oil and no further maintenance, but the other that says it does not lubricate as well and is not a fix for leaks and once its in you cant check the level etc.

So is it a good idea or not. Apart from towing a trailer around rally fields, i doubt i'll do much offroading so its mainly road use.

One shot, as long as you check the swivels every now and then you'll notice if they ever run out. If your really concerned could always fit new seals although it's not a 5min job (unless you cut 'em) :)

I've never had a problem with either. The RRC swivel started to drip so I topped up with oil and the put a few shots of LM grease from my gun that stopped the leak.
Disco uses grease but with Teflon swivel balls if that makes any difference, the balls stay wet as the grease forms a V where the seals haven't wiped the ball when steering.

So I would stay with what ever you have in the first place, oil.

One of me swivels was pitted so I grit blasted it and sprayed it with a fluoropolymer coating - perks of working for a coatings company :)
based on what's collected on the side of the swivel, me coated one has already lost signicantly more one shot than on the chrome side

I think i'll stick with the EP thanks, maybe do the seals next year. At least i can keep it topped up easily and i know the joints will be geting oiled.

Maybe with new swivels and seals, but i dont think its worth the risk.

I have opened up a few joints recently, one packed with real grease on a santana, and the other two on mine, which were filled with swivel grease, but I had decided to get a rebuild kit for them.

I can tell you that swivel grease was perfectly able to lube every part in there, it was one hella greasy mess!

I have no concerns with swivel grease, and if it don't leak out, you know it's still there :D

I would like to say use oil, but it's just too leaky really, ESP if youbhave your original seals on :D
