Hello All,

My dad has a S reg L Series Freelander and has today returned from holiday to find that the oil light is illumintaed. He has checked the levels and they appear fine however the light will not go out.

Can anyone help by pointing us in the right direction. Someone has mentioned the oil pressure switch may be damaged but he has not got a clue where to look for it.

Thanks in advance i know you wont let us down!

The oil pressure switch is located at the outlet side of the oil filter housing to sense the oil pressure level before the oil flow enters the main gallery in the engine block. A warning lamp in the instrument pack is illuminated if low oil
pressure is detected.

this is on the KV6, but it is likely to be in the simalar position on all engines, i wud have thought.

What do you think i should check first???

Also been advised as it has been laid up for a week it may have condensation in the Sump?
Well youve now got to think, is it telling the truth [no oil pressure] in this case your oil pump could be shot,or just a faulty oil pressure switch, i hope its yer switch. . .:)

Heard a rumour on here that if you change the oil it may help, well it did not unfortunately. Started the engine and opened the oil filler cap, oil seems to be pumping away fine so i dont think that is the problem. Switch on order and will have a go at that tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

check wiring?
is the pump nackt?
get an oil pressure gauge and check wot it actually is?

Anyone in Sunderland got an oil pressure gauge that fits?

Oil pressure switch now changed and still light is on. Any more ideas lads before i cry
Dont cry Dave, ok try this bit er drible, , ,not sure if its a 2 wire or 3 wire device , if its two wire then pull connection away from switch ,and then with engine running light should be on,switch orft engine, link out with thin bit oh cable [with ends stripped] snort, the two connection on ya plug/socket [not on ya p/switch] same again switch on engine[light should be aus] if not ,then [1] proove yer pump has got pressure[floppys idea, pressure meter/gauge] if that is good. . .then youve got ta follow the deep depths of circuit following ,best oh luck. . . .:)

Right, checked the oil pressure switch again and tried to 'short it' however it will not go out so sounds like there could be a electrical fault somewhere.

However whilst trying to sort this a small crack has developed in the oil filter housing so that now needs sorting.

The car is now booked into the garage where i work so we can get it fixed but looking expensive
