I'm about to refit the oil sump on my 2A with a new gasket. I've cleaned up the metal to a smooth finish. I use a gasket sealant for almost every other gasket I fit, but when I searched these forums for "oil sump gasket" I found an old thread where black RTV silicone was recommended.

I've got some gasket sealant, and some RTV silicone. Does the RTV silicone have a benefit for the oil sump seal that I'm not aware of? How do you seal yours? (no cadburys cream egg jokes please :D)

just the dry gasket is fine ,its the 2 joins at the rear where the main bearing cap fits that benefits from some extra sealant

When you say the 2 joins at the back.. I can't see any joins on the seal face anywhere..
