looks like another very unfortunate owner who didn’t fit an upgraded oil pump cover , ouch

his engine was at tick over, so fingers crossed it hasnt destroyed the engine

Depends how long it stayed running ?

indeed but does seem to be a bit of a gamble , most of the failures are 2007 onwards , but look exactly the same back to 2004 , then also seen some pre 2007 failings

however seeing land rover improved the casting they must know there was an issue , but from what i’ve read land rover still won’t take responsibility for them failing

maybe after fitting the modified one is the answer to replace it again every 7 x years when the belts are due again ???? ,

Ford, and their oil pumps, they have a known oil pump problem on the transits, they won’t recall, just repair/ replace engine when it gives out......

blimey , isn’t the latest defender a transit engine

same with land rover and the crankshaft bearing failure blocking off the oil ways and crank snapping , but land rover from what i gather won’t compensate the owner

also read a few where the disco have wanted for nothing and still failed , some at 40,000 miles

bet it would cost them dearly if they admitted liability

but same with any manufacturer, once they accept liabity it opens the flood gates , only one i believe was the VW emissions scandal, but don’t think they had much option other than put there hands up

in all fairness can understand why so many people go towards the landcruisers etc

Disco 3 engine was built in Dagenham, the later disco/ range sdv6 engines are now built at ford Bridgend, you would think by now they could build an engine, they’ve been trying for over hundred years !!
