Day 2 of P38 ownership, small pool of oil by the front wheel.
Seems to have come out around the drive/half shaft and dripped down the wheel.

Did not notice it yesterday (or Friday) as our drive is which allowed it to hide more effectively, and plus this occasion I had parked on a downward angle (front down) in a car park space.

To be safe I called the AA, looks like it lost about 150ml, topped diff back up, seems ok. Sitting at LR dealer ready for Monday morning, I am going to ask them to fix it as it looks like it was dripping for a few days.

Sounds like an easy enough fix, and both the AA and I think the dealer should do it as it was not fit to be on the road like this.

Hmmmmmmmm. Still a lovely car.
Update tomorrow, I hope I get it back tomorrow..........

I hear it is all fixed, seems the oil seal was faulty, same one they replaced a week or two ago......
Should be able to pick it up later fingers crossed... :)

Did they mean they damaged to new oil seal they fitted a week or so ago when they put the halfshaft back in?

Actually, just had a call from them, looks like the half shaft is worn too. There is one on order, more expensive than they thought. Obviously not fit to have been sold, so it is at their expense......
More on the saga soon I guess.

whats the gay38 got then?

They did away with the chrome balls and fitted top & bottom ball joints instead..pain in the arse to change and align as one is adjustable to centralise the hub with the axle tube.
At least with the old Classic the swivel balls used to weep and not p*ss out and the chrome balls & seals could be easily replaced together with the bearings. If you couldn't be bothered with the hassle, you could fill them with one-shot special grease instead.
Have a read on RAVE for the P38 procedure and count yourself lucky !!!
:eek::behindsofa:

normally cant see underneath them cos the air suspensio has collapsed :p

I know I am lucky I dont know why you lot bother, its bad enough have a landrover at all let alone a p38-its just asking for it :p

That reminds me, I must get some swivel grease for the 72- ah, easy fix :D
