Hey, as titles says.

Soooooooo, i've got an oil leak. It's not that hard to spot due to it dripping some drops.
I've got black oil/fluid all the way back to the gearbox/transfer. Heck, even my middle crossmember is buttered by oil.

My rocker cover is abit leaky, but really not major leak. Also had the vacum gasket changed due to leakage which has fixed some.

What i find really odd is that its oil under the radiator on the RH side, like on the chassis. Only on RH side. Note its a LH drive. I am going to hose everything down tomorrow with a spraycan of engine cleaner so i maybe can see where the drops actually come from, but is there any suggestions due to it being oil all over the place?

It loses like 10drops i'd say if its parked after driven. Not checked if it leaks more if the engine is on if thats important, which i assume might be :confused:

I'll clean it down tomorrow and see where it comes from




Thats what i think also, but the pipes are on the completly different side? their on the side with the gearbox cooler/airfilter.
Oil can be deceiving and spread about. Clean and inspect, best method
 
The turbo feed and return is on that side of the crank case ....but if its closer the radiator leaking turbo intercooler or engine oil cooler:eek:...

Oil cooler/pipes.

This was it******! I used a whole can of degreaser cleaning up all i could before it ran out, then when it was partially clean i took the engine on and bip bip it dripi dripi :eek:

It is dripping on the oil filter housing (Where the oil cooler hoses enter) So i assume this is just O Rings? And i won't need to strip my oil cooler threads? :rolleyes:
It litterually drips a drop each 2nd second. No wonder its spread all around under. lmao even had it coming back towards the bumper :D

Also, the oil i had at the front under my radiator on the LH side is apparently oil dripping from the intercooler inlet from turbo.. So i assume it is time to flush the intercooler. May i just use can degreaser on this too? I love can degreaser :D

But seriously, wow, it actually dripped quite much.

Does anyone have the part numbers in the back of their tongue?

or do i seriously need to refit my whole oilcooler hoses and strip my threads? :(

LR.com is just directing me to a Leo Radvinsky site ?? wut :confused: So i used an extra intelligence point and searched for Landrover . com and i can't really navigate that site :confused: I only found something called topix but it costs money apparently :confused:

LR.com is n Russian but if you find the schematic and click on the number showing the part it will show the part number.

Personally I use petrol in the intercooler. Obviously make sure you get it all out before refitting. It'll probably start PDQ!

Pulled my intercooler to inlet pipe off and there’s bit in there so time for me to swill out again. Makes big difference and since every oil change the oil is getting betterer so is my intercooler getting easier to clean out.

Il pull it out and all the pipes clean them out, pour load of petrol in it, bung the ends and leave stand overnight (this will show up any leaks and dissolve what it can).
I then stand intercooler upright in a bucket, pull the rags out and keep pouring the petrol that came out through it again and again. Itl get blacker and blacker. Then one last flush with clean and

* leave it to dry out thoroughly! *

You don’t want any petrol fumes in there when you put it back in or kaboom

Must i fear stripping the threads on the oil cooler tho? And it is easy to work on?
 
ITS a 11 or 12 mm bolt in the middle of the two pipes ,don't over tighten it , it just presses both pipes together with rubber seals on the ends of the pipe flanges with a H shaped clamp ,once home just nip it up ;) just another wee point ,I had a leak in that area :rolleyes: But it was the oil filter seal that was leaking and and the oil was running down the side of the filter housing .some oil filter big oil seals are too thin for a good seal :eek::eek:.

If you’re anything like me - ALWAYS :rolleyes::D

Your biggest battle will be the oil in there. Be prepared for mess.

im luckily gonna change oil since its due anyhow :)
So im gonna drain it and replace filter (if i bought the correct filter :confused:) if not i will just degrease my old filter and use it again (jk)

i have the plastic cover housing with square ontop.

Should be the later filter. Be really careful tightening it up. All you need is for that o-ring to seat properly. The DT in @RangeRoller dt stands for damn tight which is one below FT; you don't want any if that shenanigans.
