Hope you can help. I've just started working on my starter motor problem, I removed two of the bolts and when I loosened the last one a line of black oil started running down from between the mating surfaces. I wiggled the starter to make sure I'd undone the right bolt! And lots more oil ran out. That's where I've left off for now. Any ideas? If it's the crank seal, is it an ok ish job to do

Look at the bottom of the flywheel housing and you should see a bung remove this bung, make sure you have a container to catch the oil!

theres a plate on rear of td5s this tends to collect oil, you usually get a cap full when you slacken bell housing when removing the box or in your case the starter ,oils most likely leaked down the back of the head from rocker box

Ok thanks for the replies, if it's warmer tomorrow (I'm getting old!) I'll have a look at your suggestions, very helpful and thanks again.
