Hi folks,

Moderate length lingerer here, finally found a problem I can't get the answer to in the mighty depths of the forum history! - I took the plunge and bought a 300tdi 97' Disco 1 for "work" purposes (i.e I wanted an old disco and had to make up an excuse to buy one) about 6 months ago, and have been merrily wasting my weekends breaking my knuckles on it since.

Anyway, this weekend I was replacing the oil cooler hoses + stat. Previously ordered the new parts, following the catalogue advice that ESR 2844 (problem part in question) had been superseded with ESR 3691. I bought and replaced the top hose with what the catalogue said as well and all was well. However the bottom hose does not fit very well, both unions are correct, the hose strikes me as slightly too long, both in hose length and metal outlet part length before the union that goes into the oil cooler thermostat housing. initially I thought either I had been sent or had bought the wrong part, but after some searching it seems what i have is indeed 3691, the "correct" part.

Normally i'd just force it and see what happens, as 9 times out of 10 elbow grease works wonders on rusty heaps but the radiator was one of the very few new parts the disco came with and i don't really want to rip the male union out of it.

Anyone else had this issue? Does the new one just need the stiffness working out of the rubber part of the hose or am i missing something here?

Thanks in advance.

"lovely jubbly" grade fitting, but leaking original (shorter hose stubby end)

And the new "correct" part (longer hose longer end)

The rubber pipe looks shorter therefore making it will make harder to bend, have you tried fitting the male end first, then as you will have more leverage with the steel pipe to bent the hose and fit the female end, perhaps warming the hose first.
It just a thought but I don't see much else u can do.

In my head the new pipe had a longer hose than the original, the picture just makes it appear shorter than the old one... Though I'm questioning that a touch now you mention it . Will have to have another look in the shed.

It does actually fit, in that it can be persuaded to fit. It's just not quite "right". Probably worry over nothing, good shout about warming it up, probably all it needs to help form it a bit.
