Hi

I've just discovered a pool of oil under my 300TDi Defender and have traced the leak to the union where the bottom oil hose is connected to the the oil cooler. Unscrewing the union revealed a shredded o-ring. I don't seem to be able to find a part number for this o-ring (Land Rover only supply it with the complete hose assembly, and none of the usual spares companies I've called have been able to help) so can anyone tell me what size/type or o-ring I need to replace it with?

Many thanks for your assistance!

An O ring is cheap, but new pipes aren't very expensive either. While you are at it, flush the oil cooler too. It might be my imagination, but after the thick sludge in the bottom of my oil cooler was cleaned out, the oil warning goes out quicker, and the engine seems quieter....

Thanks for this. I've ordered the o-rings from Paddocks. The oil cooler is only a year old, so hopefully not sludged up yet (the oil light usually goes out on the starter alone, before the engine has fired). I suspect I over-tightened the union and chewed up the old o-ring in the process. I will check the pipes for signs of wear and take a view on whether to replace them. The local Landy dealer quoted me £75 a pipe for replacement - although I could get them cheaper elsewhere, it's still more than I can get away with just now (my wife is building a case to make me sell the vehicle, which I am strongly resisting)!
