Hi guys I'm new to the landy world just recently bought myself a land rover series III 109 lwb. I've started slowly gathering information about service items.

I want to clean my oil air filter and bath. Once I've disposed of the old oil from it what new oil do I use to refill it with?

Many thanks in advance

What ho Mr Sting ...
Use the same oil as for the engine, there's a fill line on mine but i think it takes like a pint and a half.
If you can it's good to wash out the housing and wire mesh filter with a parafin bath or petrol.
You might also want to consider replacing the filter with a K&N paper one if originality is not an issue, I have both and swap between the 2 depending on weather conditions and how dusty it is ..

I took my oil bath air filter off to get at the fuel pump and never put it back on. I've got a wire mesh filter attached directly to the top of the carb.

Hi Col,
I used to be a grass track racer and a fellow club member I used to race with just had a coarse wire mesh filter over his carb we laughingly called his stone trap. He reconed it gave him more power, but for sure his engines did not last long on the dusty race tracks.:)

One good thing about the oil filter was if you went a bit to deep in the water and sucked some in the first thing to go through to the engine would be some of the oil resulting in a lot of smoke and a good warning.

How often do you need to change the filter oil if you are not using the vehicle in dusty conditions?

The oil in mine has been in there since I got it back on the road. It still looks as clean as the day I filled it.

That would be very deep water

It was,I was standing bent over in the flooded cab to keep my bottom dry with water splashing over the bonnet. I was crossing back over a river that was unknown to me still tidal a long way in land:eek:.Made it, just.:)

The dirt settles to the bottom , the only way you can see is to tip the oil out , if its clean you can put it back in.
