Made a fatal mistake this morning, tired and not concentrating i left the timing pin in the IP when cranking over on the key

Likely damage other than new IP?

Belt didn't snap, i assume the crank turned but haven't looked at timing to see if the cam is now out, but IP is leaking all over the place so it doesn't look good there.

Ever heard of someone doing this before and likely damage caused or can i notch it up as the a dumb mistake?

Crank & Cam out on the timing so head off, IP leaking fuel all over the place.

Was planning to get the head off over the weekend for the valves to do so head gasket on its way

Feel such a knob right now, had this off and on so many times, lack of concentration and it's fooked :(

Thats a ****er mate. Take a day off and go back with a fresh mind and body.

I've just had a near death experience by leaving the chuck key in my lathe and switching it on (not on purpose I should add). I've been using lathes for nearly 30 years and never done it but was tired and rushing. Seen it done many times by noobs. Missed me nugget by a a bit less than a tad and put a dent in the wife's Volvo.

Aye it's a silly mistake and not something i'd usually do, i can bumble abit now and then, but i just wasn't concentrating, weirdly though i was working on her with the bonnet on and propped up, usually i remove it, and i never had line of sight with the timing cover. Not only that i was taking pictures to update my thread about the covers coming off and new bolts being fitted.

i would buy complete disco engine for £200 and refit pump will probably cost more to repair

That's what i'm hoping to do, but can't find one for that price anywhere for love nor money atm.

Does this mean theres a Season 2 of "Paul goes Wilde in the garage"??

Looks like it mate, will be starting later on ;)

I've removed the IP and may have been very lucky although it's hard to tell what the inside of it is like. The outer cast around the timing hole and the inner bearing has sheared off, but not alot, this has created an opening on the other side of the bearing which is allowing the fuel to **** out, but it's repairable if it's the only problem with the pump and i was (un)lucky that the whole thing only turned very briefly ( the noise caused me to stop as soon as the starter turned the engine ) rather than say a belt snapping along the road ( although haven't got to the cam/crank just yet )

I've got some pics taken, i'll upload in abit.

The pump turns fine and no untoward noises are coming from inside it that i can tell.

Will be whipping the head off in abit.

paul if you do get stuck i can get 200 disco for £200 not nicked,

thx James, i'll let you know, i'd rather try and repair the pump if i can and it's not too difficult.

Pics of the pump:

Can you see the odd one(s) out ;)

So i need to replace the rods, will inspect the followers and the cam tomorrow ( i do have another cam if needed ) and she turns over perfectly on the crank so i'm not too concerned in that area.

The IP needs the piece that was sheared off welding/gluing/gaffer taping back on or howwever i can do it, as it has gone past the bearing, the fuel just pumps out from behind there so it has to be as strong as the cast to work ( anyone know the pressure inside the pump? )

Any thoughts let me know

Cheers
