OBD tool for dse 1999???

is there a diagnostic tool on the market for a rangerover 2.5 dse diesel??
its a 1999 registration with a BMW engine..
all i want to do is check for DTC
dont want to be taking it to the dealers at £45 a pop.
i have bought this but im having no joy with communicating with the vehicle...

I have the elm 327 which I use on other cars, have try'd it on my own 2000 M/Y p38 diesel plus couple other RR diesels I have dealings with and it doesnt communicate with any of them, unless you spend a lot more money it might be cheaper to have codes read at dealers or independent than buy the kit that will talk to the diesel.

The ELM 327 interface does not communicate with the P38 diesel. Oh what a nice world it would be if it did.

Sorry Smartmart
At present the lowest cost way to read the fault codes from your DSE yourself is, by a long margin, our SV125 MSV-2 Nano based kit at about 450 GBP, Which is a full blown capability system. However we are working very hard on producing an item in the form of our Faultmate FCR that just reads and clears all Fault codes for less than half that, but that is still 2 or 3 weeks away.

Upcoming news of the FCR 's on going development can be found at WWW.Blackbox-solutions/FCR/news.htm

This page is worth watching, because although at present the news on this page reflects only the near completion of L322 capability, however this week i expect to add that all L322 work has been completed and released and that P38 work has started.

keep your eyes on RSW http://www.rswsolutions.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=1&Itemid=18 they have a unit due out soon that should cost less than £120 and should by the sound of things do almost everything that the main stealer's does.
