Aside from another of my posts ref BECM not going to sleep and draining the battery, and suspecting the worst as ive already disconnected the RF receiver months ago for the same thing!!! Tied parking in another place etc, no joy, but now i can lock/unlock the car from about 10ft away even with the power from the rf disconnected!!! I will go and check it tomorrow but can the rf receiver get a "back feed" via the wire that goes to the BECM (i guess that where it goes?)
Its odd because before i needed to be right next to the quater panel for it to work????

Well i couldnt wait till tomorrow so i went out and disconnected the rf completely, and guess what? After 2 mins the becm went to sleep!!! Before it was awake the hole time (red light on park selector glowing). So even if you take the blue wire off it can still drain the battery. Guess i need a new uprated one now. Still better than a becm repair.

what do you mean you disconnected the RF receiver? presumably you only disconnected the antenna. no receiver at all and it wouldn't be able to work at all. and that's your answer, without antenna its just less sensitive to stray signals and so the one from your fob gets through. by moving the car you probably found a spot with less background interference and cross talk (maybe in the radio shadow of a wall or something?) and so your fob is being read loud and clear.

ah i misread you originally. you didn't move the car but it started working better. same answer i reckon, drop in background interference for whatever reason. as far as a new one, someone wrote on here that the main difference is simply better shielding. so you could just try doing that for yourself like some copper mesh wire wrapped around it for example (makes a faraday cage).

Sorry i thought the box under the rear parcel shelf was the receiver. Before i had just taken the blue wire of, now i have removed all the wires.

it is (drivers side parcel shelf behind trim) and the blue wire is the antenna wire. if you've removed all wires its basically powered off and can't read anything anymore, not the background interference that was keeping your BECM up and presumably now also not the key fob either?

I think it must be a fault in the RF unit, as now the becm goes to sleep in about 2 mins, where as before it was awake all the time.

if you press the sport button beside the gear knob the light also goes off!!! ( i think i was inside the car and it was lock when i tried this, didnt try pressing, getting out then locking) i didnt realise it tells the becm its bed time!!!)

Yes it works. Got out and locked car one dark night and notice dim red glow, unlocked pressed mode button and it went out, stayed out when i locked it.

Yes this does turn the light out on the gear selector but the BECM stays awake,as i can hear an electrical noise, when it sleeps with the doors unlocked the light goes out and the noise stops.
