Noob qustion what to look out for ?

Hi i am looking at getting a Range rover i am thinking about getting a 96-99 model but i have a few qustions.
1. what changes did BMW make ?
2. what are the main things to look out for when buying ?
3. is there a face lift model ?
4. is there much diffrence in the 4.0 and the 4.6 ?
5 is the diesel any good ?

Thats a lot of questions.............

1. Not aware of any significant changes

2. Electrics - make sure everything works.

3. I believe they were facelifted in the 2000 model year - clear indicators and some body colous and a few interior changes.

4. A lot of people say the 4.0 is a sweeter engine, personaly my 4.6 was as smooth as silk. and I couldnt fault it. Plus with the 4.6 you get the HSE spec - on the 4.0 the extras were options.

5. Drive the diesel then the V8, then buy the V8.
Although the V8 has had its fair share of gremlins, they are easy to work on and parts are more freely available.

What about the air ride does it go wrong ?

It's in great condition for its year and is a real pleasure to drive.

air suspension can play up, normally the height sensors can go causing it to drop, other thing to check are the air springs, make sure they're not perished, they're expensive at around £200 each from land rover

when checking the operation of the eas, make sure when you press the up side of the switch, the vehcle rises at a decent speed, if it takes ages then the compressor is tired

With regards to your other questions, the only thing bmw is the diesel engine which is gutless but can be chipped to produce more power than a 4.6! I'd go for the V8 as its much smoother to drive.
