Noisy Diff? - P38 2.5 TDI

My range rover which ive just got - 1997 - P38 - 2.5 TDI
Has a light whine noise it does this while free wheeling
It goes when I accelerate but when i take the foot of the gas it comes back.

From what i can see its the diff ..
Anyone any input..

Also i have to do around 300 mile journey would this be safe to do if it is a diff ?..

Definatly diff. Make sure there is oil in it first of all. If it's only a very light whine it should be ok for the journey but i would'nt tow a caravan.

Ill take a look at the oil level i bet its not been checked in a while.
