Hi all,
The back door on me defender 90 makes a loud rattle when going over bumps. I had heard you can get a refurb kit for the hinges and wondered if anyone has fitted one and how much they are. I have also considered getting a spare wheel carrier to take the weight off the door.

any views ?

hmm,
just had alook on the tinterweb and the Mantech wheel carriers are over £200  but there is a cheaper alternative from MM 4x4 for about £80. anyone know what the difference is apart from the price , dont want to buy the cheap one if it falls to bits after a couple of weeks.

trev.

can you let me know what order you fitted the parts? i have a wheel carrier with my 90 when i bought it and im going to fit it this weekend as my 265/75 grizzly's nearly tor my door off last weekend greenlaning.

i didnt get any instructions with it sadly :( think i have all the parts and a rough idea where they do. i just dont want to start drilling holes if i dont know what im doing.

sorry for stealing the post Kinff.

one of the bottom holes is an existing one in the rear crossmember. loosely fit the bottom bracket then mark the other hole @ drill. Offer up the carrier and top bracket, making sure the top rail is nice and level. You should than be able to mark the holes fer the to bracket.
If yer rear cross member has had a ding and is bent, like mine was, it gets a bit more complicated!

i've seen the scopion one on my friend's d110 over here in singapore!! ok, what you really need to do is to also put a backing plate on the part which you mount to the tub (it doesn't come with one, but a simple 4mm steel plate will do the trick).

i've seen his nearly ripped off when he went down into a V dip. if you place the carrier too low, you might affect the angle of depature.

bollox, mine is a little pushed back, thought it may be a problem! can i use a high lift to push it out? or am i ****ing into the wind?
you could try pushing it out but i just spaced my bottom bracket with some washers to line it up
mine came with a backing plate for the top bracket
absolutely no problem with departure angle - way too high for that!

yer but no but...

the scorpion one mounts horizontally though. so i cant really shimmy it out to make up for the bent in my x-member. :( if you see what i mean.

i think i got a coupla spacers with mine for various places. so i should be ok i hope.

gonna try and fit it tomorrow!

cheers.

...ive just looked at the scorpion website and seen my wheel carrier! :) so does anyone have instructions for fitting a scorpion wheel carrier?

I found out the other day why scorpion website/adverts do not have
prices on the website or the mag adverts

Their prices are an arm and a Leg

Scorpion Racing have got to be the worst company I have ever dealt with. I ordered 2 extreme prop shafts only one came 2 months later I ring and they accuse me of already having it. the UJ in one only lasted 7 months and and Richard told me it was because I didn't grease it enough, once a month was not enough according to him. They told me that they only use genuine parts in them and I found a make that certainly wasn't Hardy Spicer. Another time I bought an evolution kit and it arrived with bits missing. On both occaisions they took my money and never told me parts were out of stock just kept me waiting. Glad I got that off my chest!

At leaset Dick Turpin wore a mask!!!
